2016

Remember me? Sorry I went a bit AWOL for a few months there. Time just seemed to disappear! What did I miss?

Well, 2016 was a bit of a whirlwind, wasn't it? It's safe to say an awful lot of bad things happened this year throughout the world, and an awful lot of things are going to change as a consequence. But change isn't necessarily always a bad thing.

In the words of Kylie Jenner, this was the year of "realising stuff". Wise words, Kylie, wise words. But there is actually some truth in her fairly obvious premonition. We realised that things don't always go the way we think and hope they will. We realised the terrible division that people's differences can create. We realised that people will go to unthinkable and unforgiveable lengths to make their beliefs seen and heard.

But we also saw the kindness of strangers in the midst of devastation. We saw the fight for unity in the face of division. We saw the determination to continue to live in freedom, and help others gain their freedom too.

And pandas are no longer endangered.

Pandas make everything better.

So 2016 wasn't amazing, but it wasn't a complete loss. The sad truth is, bad things are bound to happen no matter what year it is, it's just a way of life. Sure, it often felt like 2016 kept smacking us over the head with an onslaught of bullsh*t, and even in these last few days it seems that it's not quite done yet. But rather than becoming overwhelmed, it's important to focus on the good and, more importantly,  create the good from the bad, whether it's showing your support in times of need or doing your good deed for the day. Do your little bit to prove that, contrary to what many people have said after this rollercoaster year, there are still so many things to smile about in the world.

So here's to 2016, the year of the crazy and "realising stuff"!

Let's see what 2017 has in store...

Love, Beth xxx
