Hiking in sandals

Let's just take a moment to appreciate the unbelievable cuteness of the above photo.

*Squeal*

You'll be seeing more of those little fluffballs later...

One of the most recommended walks in Santorini is the coastal trek from Fira to Oia. Passing through Firostefani and Imerovigli, it's just under 10km, and took us about 3 hours one way in sandals (big up my New Look bargains for not falling apart!)

Word of warning, walking up and down multiple hills on varying levels of loose gravel and volcanic rock in sandals is not the wisest of choices!

Sure, you could just hop on a bus and be there in less than half an hour, but why would you want to miss views like these?

We weren't the only ones enjoying them!

You're sure to meet a few locals along the way...

How could you possibly walk by these little guys without stopping to say hello?

Safe to say I was in my element. And judging from that little face, he was too!

Eventually you'll have to pull yourself away (although I'll happily play with puppies all day). After all, you've got a walk to complete!

This is certainly one way to burn off those multiple gyros and souvlaki. Those hills in the heat may be tough, but you'll be treated to Santorini's hidden gems at the top.

And did I mention those views?

You know the end is in sight when you reach a colourful little church perched high up on a cliff overlooking the caldera and back towards Imerovigli and beyond. It is quite a hike up though. This snoozing pooch at the top has the right idea!

It is from here that you'll have the first glimpse of your final destination - Oia! Don't worry, it's closer than it seems...

The walk may be long, but you'll be in for a treat at the end!

Love, Beth xxx
