Sunday Smiles #2 // Hidden Gems

Pinch punch first day of the month! I'm currently sitting out in the garden with the sun shining down on my face, so I feel now is the perfect time to write my Sunday Smiles post!

- Visitors -

I've had a very busy week with different visitors coming down to Falmouth to stay, hence why I wasn't able to post my Sunday Smiles last week (many apologies for that). As I live so far away when I'm at uni, it's usually months before I get to see my friends and family again, so it's always so nice to have them stay for a few days, especially as it gives me an excuse to get out and explore!

- Exploring Cornwall -

Nothing's too far away in Cornwall, but the lack of good public transport links makes it very difficult to get around to different places, as well as very expensive, so as my family drove down to visit, it meant we could use the car to explore Cornwall. We visited the abandoned wooded quarry of Kennall Vale, had a little paddle at Perranporth, walked around the streets and quirky antique stores of Penzance, revisited our old family holiday destination in Hayle, had a little spy on the seals at Godrevy, and carefully peered over the edge of Hell's Mouth. A very busy few days!

In a secluded cove at Godrevy, you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a group of seals in their natural habitat. Seals were my favourite animals when I was younger, so it always makes me happy to see them out and about, even if there were only 3 of them this time.

- Eating out -

Being a student, I very rarely have the funds to treat myself to a nice meal out, so it was lovely to be taken out to dinner by my family. Having a dog with us, we were a bit limited as to where we could go, but overall you're spoilt for choice on places to eat in Falmouth! We first went to 5 Degrees West, where I created my own burger with added cheddar cheese and BBQ pulled pork - yum! The next evening we went to our family favourite, The Pandora Inn in Mylor, where I had sausage and mash followed by a dessert of dark chocolate and Baileys marquise and cookie dough ice cream. I would have taken a photo of both dishes, but I was much too excited to eat them!

I love making little discoveries, so when we opened the drawer in the table we were sitting at in The Pandora Inn, it was a lovely surprise to find a few sheets of paper with notes scribbled all over them from previous customers. They ranged from stories about what they had got up to in Falmouth, to why they were there, to random doodles. So of course I had to leave my own little mark!

- Tea and cake -

My favourite tea room in Falmouth has to be the adorably quirky Dolly's Tea Room and Wine Bar, so I was keen to take my family there to show them what the fuss was all about. My sister and I had a couple of slices of the caramalised orange and carrot cake, which was deliciously light and moist, while my parents had scones with strawberry jam and Cornish clotted cream, with cups of tea all round. It was lovely as always, but unfortunately there was a no show of the tea room's pearl wearing Labrador, Hebe (Archie enjoyed having a sniff at the dog toys scattered on the floor though).
